"EDUCATION IS THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON YOU CAN USE TO CHANGE THE WORLD"
NELSON MANDELA
SWESkills is addressing the global tech talent shortage and creating employment for Africa's youths.
Global tech talent shortage: Almost every country in the world is experiencing severe shortage of highly skilled software engineers as technological innovation continues to transform multiple industries. In the US for example, there will be 1.4 million computer science-related jobs available by 2020 and only 400,000 computer science graduates with the skills to apply for those jobs.
Africa's demographic dividend: Africa has the youngest, fastest-growing and one of the most diverse populations in the world. With the youth population expected to double to 830 million, and the overall population projected to grow rapidly to 2.5 billion by 2050, youth are Africa’s greatest asset.
Africa’s rising graduate unemployment: Africa’s demographic dividend remains untapped due to high youth unemployment. Half of the over 10 million graduates from universities in Africa yearly do not get a job. Lack of market-ready skills contributes to this. In Nigeria (projected to be the world’s 3rd largest country by 2050), graduate unemployment was reported to be nearly 30% in 2018.
we can tap into Africa’s demographic dividend to solve the global tech talent shortage and accelerate the growth of regional and global tech innovation ecosystems? What if by doing so, we can unlock new potentials, reduce extreme poverty and achieve shared prosperity among families in Africa?
What if
SWESkills upskills graduates in Africa to become highly qualified software engineers and place them in employment at no upfront cost.
Project-based training
Our world-class curriculum ensures that trainees develop strong computational problem solving skills, deep understanding of software engineering principles, solid appreciation of industry best practices and are equipped with excellent life & soft skills. Mentored by experienced engineers, trainees then apply these skills to work on real life projects throughout the duration of their training.
Training to Employment
After a six months intensive training, we place graduates in paid employment with our hiring partner companies. We retain a number of graduates to work full-time in our software development outsourcing consultancy.
Tuition Free
SWESkills aims to significantly increase access to quality software engineering education, especially to those who may not afford it. As a result, we offer our training at no upfront cost. Graduates from our training pay back 20% of their income for the first two years after they are employed in full-time software engineering positions.
Work Environment
We understand the infrastructure challenges in the region. So, we provide a fun and conducive work environment for our trainees so they can focus on learning and immediately applying the learning to solve real-life problems.
